{"id":816,"date":"2022-02-17T19:11:11","date_gmt":"2022-02-17T10:11:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/toba.gr.jp\/en\/?p=816"},"modified":"2025-03-12T13:38:42","modified_gmt":"2025-03-12T04:38:42","slug":"tobas-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toba.gr.jp\/en\/tobas-tomorrow\/","title":{"rendered":"Toba\u2019s Tomorrow: Moving Towards a Bright Future"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Toba\u2019s Ama culture has recently been recognized on the \u201cJapan Heritage List\u201d by the Agency of Cultural Affairs.<br>And there is even a movement that wants to see it recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by Unesco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/toba.gr.jp\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/toba-landscape.jpg\" alt=\"Toba landscape\" class=\"wp-image-817\" srcset=\"https:\/\/toba.gr.jp\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/toba-landscape.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/toba.gr.jp\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/toba-landscape-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/toba.gr.jp\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/toba-landscape-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But it\u2019s not all good news for Ama culture, which is sometimes called a dying culture as there are fewer and fewer female divers each year with an ever-aging population and fewer young women who are ready to stay in rural Japan to learn an often perilous profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Global warming, and the connected warming ocean, and rising sea levels are another thread to Toba\u2019s culture.
